Youth Services & Resource Center

The Goal of the Program is to “provide a safe nurturing and enjoyable vehicle for development and citizenship which will allow the youth to maintain a positive attitude and succeed in life.”

1. Youth Work Readiness Program– this program provides youth, ages 14 & 15 years old, with work readiness development and counseling in the areas of employment education.

2. Computer Literacy Training– PRUP’s staff will be available four days a week to train the youth in using state of the art equipment

3. Violence Prevention– ICE (Initiative, Commitment, and Empowerment) is a violence prevention education curriculum designed to influence youth in making healthy choices.

4. Field Trips– The youth will participate in a variety of trips to cultural events and places of entertainment, as well as area colleges. 5. Arts and Cultural Activities– The Youth Art Program will provide formal and hands-on exposure to the visual arts.

6. Community/School linkages– The Youth Center has developed a system of communication with community groups and the city schools to aid students in resolving school and community problems.

7. Parent-Child Time Sharing– A well structured time where youth and their parents will share fun time together and learn how to maintain a close and mutually rewarding relationship.

8. Tutoring– The staff at PRUP will help the youth with questions about their homework and will assist in the completion of their assignments by providing guidance and support.

9. Impaired Driving Prevention program - funded by the New Jersey Department of Public Safety—a prevention program for youth 17-21. Youth participants will plan develop the format for an educational presentation. PRUP will educate at least 300 Latinos between the ages of 17-20 years of age on the risks and consequences of drinking and drugging while driving
